About Us
A Family Called to Serve
Coker Family Funeral Home was born out of something simple and enduring: a belief that the people of our local community deserve a funeral home that's truly their own.
We believe funeral care should feel personal, built on real relationships, not standardized processes. That's the kind of funeral home we set out to build: independently owned, deeply rooted in this community, and committed to treating every family who walks through our doors like our own.
Our Story
For Rev. Steve Coker, funeral service was never just a business, it was a calling that found him twice.
Steve grew up watching his father serve families in the funeral profession with a zeal for people, building genuine relationships and putting others first at every turn. Steve was privileged to work alongside his father in the funeral supply industry during the final years of his life, a profession he has continued for more than a decade.
But Steve's life of service took another form as well. For 21 years, he served the Bulverde and Spring Branch community as a pastor, walking with families through their hardest moments, officiating services, and building the kind of deep community bonds that only come from showing up, year after year, for the people around you. That ministry taught him something important: compassionate, present, personal care creates connections that last.
Now, those two callings are becoming one. Steve is proud to open Coker Family Funeral Home as both a pastor and a licensed funeral director, bringing the full weight of his experience, his faith, and his love for this community into every family we serve.
The Next Generation
Steve's and Joni's sons, John and Kyle, are co-managing partners at Coker Family Funeral Home, and they couldn't be more proud to carry this legacy forward.
Sixth-generation Texans and New Braunfels natives, John (wife Alyssa) and Kyle (wife Rebecca) are deeply rooted in the communities they call home. Both are actively involved in local nonprofits and civic life, because serving this area isn't just their business: it's who they are.
Kyle brings firsthand industry knowledge to the team via his experience with The Messenger Company, where both his father and grandfather built careers before him. Three generations. One profession. One community.
Why Here?
The Texas Hill Country has long deserved a local funeral home it could call its own. Families in this community have largely had to travel, or rely on providers who themselves must outsource cremations and other services to larger, often corporate-owned facilities elsewhere.
We're changing that. Coker Family Funeral Home handles the entirety of our care on-site, in-house, handled by our own team. Never outsourced, never handed off.
When you entrust us with your loved one, they remain in our care from beginning to end. That's not just a service detail. It's a promise.
Our Promise to You
We are not a corporation. We are not a franchise. We are a family. One that has lived in this community, served in its churches, taught in its schools, supported its nonprofits, and grown up on its roads.
Joni Coker, Steve's wife and our Operations Coordinator, spent her career as an educator in the very schools that serve this community: as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and ultimately retired an executive director for Comal ISD. She knows these families. In many cases, she helped raise them.
We started Coker Family Funeral Home because we believe that when a family is at their most vulnerable, they deserve to be cared for by people who will remember their name long after the service is over.
We look forward to earning your trust.
